It's coming on two years since I last posted photos onto this blog, and it has nothing to do with our current covid situation. Today was the first day that I actually came home stoked with a collection of shots; not one, not two, but a whole series. I can't blame the weather or the lack of swells.. there's been plenty of those over the past year. I put it down to me, I had lost my photo mojo and I couldn't seem to shake it. Shooting had been enjoyable, but I wasn't coming home with anything WOW! I was more interested and enjoying the act of getting wet with buddies, throwing my camera through hollow pits is great fun. But, when it came to editing I just felt blah. The shots I took just didn't speak to me.
Today for some reason it felt good, the photos I took came out looking sweet and the energy of the 6ft+ swell seemed to flow effortlessly through them. I particularly like this photo above as it all just seemed to line up, pun intended. Surfers paused momentarily before taking a leap out into the blue. Deep in thought for some, one wrong move and it could spell {Insert unfortunate event here}. I did see one guy take a tumble, thankfully he was able to get going before becoming shipwrecked. Maybe this one shot of these waiting surfers was my catalyst for creativity? A moment of thought and motivation to nail something unique as they think about their safe entry or their future wave of the day?
Once out in the line up it looked like it was whole load of fun and fabulous for photography. I was able to see things like I used to, it was fun to get creative not just pointing, shooting and hoping!
One sunny day, when the surf was up, shooting with my favourite lens... today felt good. Here's to more of that feeling.
Cheers, Adam
